This booklet was developed for an Alternative Publication class at Drexel, which focused on modern and unconventional approaches to the concept of a magazine. I chose to create the imaginary “Calligraph Magazine,” a publication about the various forms that calligraphy and hand-made text can take in the modern day. To convey this convergence of traditional and modern, instead of having a traditional printed masthead or cover, the magazine’s name is sewn into the spine of the book using the long-stitch binding method, so that the cover and title are actually holding together the pages in the book. The pages inside vary in size to create a layered effect that mirrors the spine.
